Big shoes to fill: Cory Cruise in competition to be new vocalist for Stone Temple PilotsPosted by CoryCruise on February 19, 2016 | No comments
Cory Cruise has entered a competition to could land him a job with one of his favourite bands — Stone Temple Pilots
NIAGARA FALLS — There’s a lot going on for Cory Cruise these days.
He has just released an album and now he’s competing for a chance to sing with one of his favourite bands, The Stone Temple Pilots.
“I’m a huge fan of some of their early music,” Cruise said. “I’ve always been attracted to the band. Scott Weiland was great but I was always attracted to the sound of the band.”
The Niagara Falls musician has tossed his hat into the ring for a competition STP are currently running to replace Chester Bennington (Linkin Park), who had taken over vocal duties from Weiland, who passed away in December of last year.
“When I was doing some roadie work for Alexis on Fire, Dallas Green told me my voice was a lot like Chester’s from Linkin Park,” Cruise said. “Ironically Chester fronted STP for a bit years later. How mind blowing would it be to have that opportunity.”
Backing tracks for STP songs were provided for competitors to choose and Cruise took a run at Vasoline, one of the band’s hits.
“I would love to, even if I had to get in the car and drive to California, and just have two minutes to show them what I can do live.”
But in the meantime, Cruise is continuing to spread the word about his debut album
1221, which was released in late January.
“It feels absolutely amazing,” Cruise said of finally getting an album of his own music on the streets. “I’ve received so much support.”
